INFRASTRUCTURAL INTERVENTIONS AT ESUMU-UKU PRIMARY SCHOOL OBIARUKU AND IGWETE PRIMARY SCHOOL, AMAI UKWUANI LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA

The infrastructural intervention project at Esumu-Uku Primary School in Obiaruku and Igwete Primary School in Amai, located within Ukwuani Local Government Area of Delta State, was designed to improve the quality, safety, and inclusiveness of the learning environment for pupils and teachers. Many public primary schools in rural communities face challenges such as dilapidated classrooms, inadequate furniture, poor sanitation facilities, and limited access to safe water, all of which hinder effective teaching and learning. This project addressed these gaps through the rehabilitation and/or construction of classroom blocks, provision of desks and chairs, and improvement of essential facilities such as toilets and water points, thereby creating conducive spaces that support child-friendly education.

By strengthening basic educational infrastructure, the intervention contributes to increased school enrolment, attendance, and retention, particularly among girls and vulnerable children, while enhancing the overall wellbeing of the school community. The project supports national and global commitments to equitable access to quality basic education and aligns with Sustainable Development Goals on Quality Education, Clean Water and Sanitation, and resilient community infrastructure. Ultimately, the initiative promotes long-term human capital development in Ukwuani LGA by ensuring that children learn in safe, dignified, and enabling environments.
